Sustainability (ESG)

The Sustainability module captures the ESG metrics increasingly required for tender pre-qualification and corporate reporting — carbon footprint, water use, waste, materials sustainability ratings, and worker welfare KPIs.

Overview

The module ships pre-seeded catalogs (20 carbon emission factors, 16 water-use benchmarks, etc.) calibrated for the UAE/KSA region. Tenants can extend with their own measurements.

Key concepts

Emission factor. kg CO₂e per unit of activity (kg of cement, kWh of grid electricity, liter of diesel, etc.). Seeded from the UAE Climate Change & Environment Ministry standards.

Scope 1 / 2 / 3. Standard GHG Protocol scopes. Scope 1 = direct (fuel, refrigerants), Scope 2 = purchased energy, Scope 3 = upstream/downstream (materials, transport, waste).

Water KPI. L per m² built, per worker per day.

Waste KPI. kg per m² built, split by category (concrete, steel, wood, packaging, hazardous).

Materials sustainability. Each material in the catalog has an EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) reference and a recycled-content percentage when known.

Worker welfare KPIs. Accommodation standards, working hours, wage protection compliance.

Step-by-step: record fuel consumption

  1. Sustainability → Scope 1 → New entry.
  2. Pick the asset (from Assets & Equipment).
  3. Enter fuel type and quantity.
  4. The system multiplies by the emission factor and adds to scope 1 totals.

Step-by-step: import energy invoices

  1. Sustainability → Scope 2 → Import invoices.
  2. Upload PDF or Excel.
  3. The system parses kWh and applies the grid emission factor.
  4. Review parsed values and confirm.

Step-by-step: generate ESG report

  1. Sustainability → Reports → New report.
  2. Pick period (month, quarter, year, or custom).
  3. Pick scope (project, company, or tenant-wide).
  4. Pick output format (PDF, Excel, GRI-compatible).
  5. The report includes Scope 1/2/3, water, waste, materials, and worker welfare sections.

Common tasks

  • Set targets: Sustainability → Targets to define annual carbon / water / waste targets.
  • Compare projects: Sustainability → Compare for emissions per m² across projects.
  • Track progress: dashboard shows target vs. actual at a glance.
  • Export GRI report: for corporate ESG submissions.

Troubleshooting

  • "My carbon total looks wrong." — Verify the emission factor used. Some materials need site-specific factors.
  • "Energy invoice didn't parse." — Invoice format not recognized. Use the Manual entry form.
  • "Worker welfare KPIs show zero." — Connect HR or accommodation system (or enter manually).
